About this role
This is a permanent, full-time role based in Bristol with a hybrid working pattern combining office, client site and home working. As Senior Functional Safety Consultant, you will lead functional safety activities across complex engineering projects from early concept through to delivery and commissioning, specifying, designing and assessing control, instrumentation and safety systems. You will apply hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques, including HAZOP, LOPA and SIL determination, to safety-critical engineering challenges, and lead multidisciplinary technical interfaces, supporting engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle. You will also produce, review and approve technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation, and work directly with clients to define requirements, manage technical scope and address project risks.

Your role
- Lead functional safety activities across complex engineering projects from early concept through to delivery and commissioning
- Specify, design and assess control, instrumentation and safety systems
- Apply hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques to safety-critical engineering challenges
- Lead multidisciplinary technical interfaces and support engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Produce, review and approve technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation
- Work directly with clients to define requirements, manage technical scope and address project risks
- Strong knowledge of process control systems and associated electrical, control and instrumentation documentation
- Experience with techniques such as HAZOP, LOPA, SIL determination, FMEA and FTA
- Working knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ISO 13849, DO-178 or DO-254
- Experience delivering projects within regulated or safety-critical sectors
- Strong technical report writing and client-facing communication skills
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent professional experience and qualifications
- Strong experience delivering engineering solutions within regulated or safety-critical environments
- Practical functional safety, hazard analysis and risk assessment experience
- Knowledge of recognised functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 or IEC 61511
- Ability to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance
